Kiwifruit has successfully been grown around Gisborne for more than 30 years. Thanks to a favourable climate and fertile soils, the district produces a high proportion of New Zealand’s early season fruit, which consistently attracts premium prices under Zespri’s Kiwistart programme.
Te Arai will be developed by Apata Group, a specialist developer of kiwifruit and avocado orchard systems who have recently completed a fully covered 62 cha orchard nearby. Once developed, Te Arai will be future proofed for the introduction of new technology as it becomes available, including automation.
