German fund managers Aquilla Capital have appointed NZR Real Estate to market two of their sheep and beef farms located in the central North Island, this spring. Comprising over 1500 hectares, the two properties and on-farm operations are overseen by MyFarm Sheep and Beef, based in Feilding.
The two properties are Pukeokahu, a 991 hectare sheep and beef property near Taihape, and Waikaha, a 552 hectare sheep, beef and dairy grazing farm near Taumaranui.
"The two properties were purchased by Aquila Capital in 2012, via a fixed term investment fund. The fund has a maturity date whereby the properties are sold and proceeds returned to the investors" says MyFarm Sheep and Beef business manager, Tom Duncan.
"Over the period of this ownership, MyFarm Sheep and Beef has overseen significant capital inputs on both properties in terms of pasture renovation, capital fertiliser, subdivision, stock handling facilities and access, with both properties now operating at high levels of sustainable production" says Duncan.
The two properties have been listed with Peter Barnett, Jamie Proude and Jules Brand of NZR (short for NZ Real Estate).
"Pukeokahu is a very attractive property on beautiful ash soils, that is a genuine breeding and finishing proposition, with a lot of cultivatable country. The scale of the property makes it a great two person operation and having such a large area deer fenced adds another dimension to the properties versatility. The bounding River Valley Lodge, brings a lot of younger people into the district for work and they rent a house on the property as well as provide a bit of casual labour on the property", says Feilding based NZR Director Peter Barnett.
"Waikaha has an excellent balance of contour right in the heart of the King Country, with 240 hectares of cultivable contour and a lot of rolling medium hill country" says Jamie Proude, Ohakune based NZR Director. "Its full name is Pukewaikaha, which translates to hill of strong water, which reflects the excellent reticulated water system sourced from tapped springs on the property. The easy contour of much of this property, will likely attract interest as a dairy support unit, as well as a high performing sheep and beef breeding and finishing unit".
The two properties are to come to the market in September and October respectively.

Attractively bounding the Rangitikei River and with views to the Ruahine Forest Park beyond, Pukeokahu is a genuine breeding and finishing property with around 30% cultivable country. The 850 hectare effective property lies predominately to the north – north/east, and features around 400 hectares that is deer fenced. Stock water is a mix of two tapped springs and reliable natural sources.
The property has three homes, including a substantial main homestead, single and shearers quarters.
